The battle for 3rd between AFC BENTLEY and COLLINGHAM FC went the way of the 'GREEN ARMY' last night at The Avenue.

A big game for both clubs. Collingham needed a win to secure 3rd. AFC BENTLEY needed to win or avoid defeat and beat Newark in the last game of the season (Saturday 2pm Kick Off). The stage was set!

The young Collingham team set off like a house on fire and pressed the home team all over the pitch stopping the fluent football we are used to at The Avenue. Despite having a couple of half chances each a goal looked unlikely until 10 minutes before half time. The Collingham centre mid player pounced on a James Brookes clearance advanced and smashed in a 25 yarder. 0 - 1 Collingham. Probably just about the right scoreline to reflect the game up this point.

HALF TIME 0 - 1.

The old coach in me had an inkling Collingham had put a lot into the 1st half and I doubted whether they could keep up that intensity. Sure enough it didn't take long for the home side to get on the score sheet. A good finish by Hand. 1-1.

The game had changed and now Bentley were starting to get on top. A corner was swung in by Matty Hughes and G7 rose like a salmon to bullet home an unstoppable header 2 - 1. The energy levels of the young Collingham team slumped and Bentley took full advantage Matty Hughes blasted home the 3rd.

On came Sniper Irwin for Rodders and he immediately played a sublime ball off the bar for Jack Varley to nod home the rebound. The Green Army were in full cry and Charlie Williams capped off a fine 2nd half display when he ventured forward and snaffled himself a goal.
